New hires bolster family medicine, rad sciences faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Sheree R. Melton, M.D.

Dr. Sheree Melton, a physician at Merit Health Medical Group in Byram, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of family medicine.

After receiving her B.S. from Tougaloo College in 2003, Melton earned her M.D. at Brown Medical School, Providence, Rhode Island, in 2007. She then had family medicine residency training at UMMC from 2007-10.

Melton served as a physician at Central Mississippi Health Services in Jackson from 2010-11 before joining Merit Health. She has also served as a wound care provider at Merit Health Central and a preceptor for UMMC and Mississippi College’s Physician Assistant Program.

She has been a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians.

Chelsea P. Stephens, B.S.

Chelsea P. Stephens, a nuclear medicine technologist at St. Dominic’s Memorial Hospital, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in radiological sciences.

After receiving her associate’s degree cum laude from Hinds Community College in 2011, Stephens earned her B.S. in radiologic sciences cum laude in 2009 at UMMC and was awarded the MSRT Student of the Year Award. She also obtained her post-baccalaureate certificate in nuclear medicine technology at UMMC in 2014, receiving the NMT Excellence Award for Superior Achievement in the Art and Science of Nuclear Medicine Technology.

Stephens served as a radiologic technologist at UMMC from 2012-14 before joining St. Dominic’s in 2014. An active member of the Mississippi Society of Radiologic Technologists and the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, she has coauthored one scientific poster presentation and has given two professional presentations.
